It belongs to a black-figure plaque that represents Athena in a temple. It was included in the Persian fill unearthed in 1888 during one of the Acropolis excavation campaigns.
The goddess, turned to the viewer’s right, appears to be seated on a stool in a temple. She is dressed in himation and has a diadem on her head. She has her spear in her left hand and an Attic-type helmet in her right. Before her are preserved parts of a guitar and the hand of a guitar-player, possibly Herakles or Apollo. The temple pediment is decorated with an akroterion in the form of a woman who holds a wreath and is draped in long-sleeved chiton.
Two thin black bands frame the scene. Added white and red have been used to render details.
